Client Reviews

From the people who brought their watches in

"I handed in my grandfather's Omega — a piece I'd been nervous to touch for years. The team at Balancier took the time to explain exactly what they found before doing anything. When I picked it up, there was a written summary of everything that had been done. I did not expect that level of care."

"My Seiko had been running about four minutes slow a day. After the Caliber Deep Clean it came back within a few seconds a day — which is apparently normal for that movement family. The timeline was accurate. They told me 10 days and it was ready on the ninth. Good communication throughout."

"I came in with a Longines that had a badly fogged crystal and a crown that stuck. Simple job, I thought. They were efficient and clear about the price from the start. No hidden additions, no upsell. The watch was back in three working days looking much better. Straightforward and professional."

"I tried three other shops before Balancier for my father's Rolex. The others quoted without looking at it properly. Balancier examined it first, then told me what it needed and what it would cost. The watchmaker even explained which components they were replacing and why. That kind of transparency was something I hadn't encountered before."

"We brought in an old Jaeger that had been in the family for a long time. It needed significant attention. The restoration conversation with Ahmad was quite thorough — he asked about its history, showed genuine interest in the piece, and gave us a clear sense of what was realistic and what wasn't. The result honoured the watch's character."

"A quick job — battery and crystal on my dress watch. I know it sounds small but it matters to me. They treated it seriously, sealed it properly, tested it. When I mentioned I wear it swimming occasionally, they double-checked the seal without me having to ask. That kind of attention to something small says a lot."

Success Stories

In more detail

These longer accounts describe the client experience across the full arc of a service — from first enquiry to collection.

The Challenge

A pocket watch found in an estate

A client inherited a Swiss pocket watch from a relative's estate. The movement had been stationary for at least fifteen years and the dial showed signs of humidity exposure. The client wanted to see it working again but was uncertain whether it was even possible.

Our Approach

We assessed the watch carefully and found the movement to be intact beneath the surface deterioration. We discussed the extent of what could be achieved — a complete overhaul was possible, the dial could be stabilised, and the original patina preserved rather than removed. Scope was agreed before any work began.

The Outcome

The watch was returned running within its designed rate, with the dial's character preserved. The client received a written account of all procedures. The watch now occupies a position in the family home that its condition previously prevented.

The Challenge

An automatic gaining four minutes daily

A client brought in an ETA-based Swiss automatic that had been running consistently fast. Previous attempts at adjustment at another workshop had not resolved the issue — the rate had improved temporarily, then drifted back.

Our Approach

Assessment revealed worn pivot holes allowing excessive play in the gear train — a root cause that adjustment alone could not address. After the full Caliber Deep Clean including pivot hole inspection, the movement was reassembled, freshly lubricated, and regulated against a precision timing standard in six positions.

The Outcome

The watch returned with a rate within ±8 seconds per day — within the designed tolerance for that caliber. The client had not worn the watch for two years due to the persistent issue. It is now back in regular use.

The Challenge

A wedding watch, worn and tired

A client brought in the watch he had worn at his wedding — a modest but meaningful piece. The crystal was deeply scratched, the case showed wear, and the crown had become difficult to operate. He simply wanted to wear it again without wincing.

Our Approach

The Dial-Side Refresh addressed each concern directly. Crystal was replaced with a mineral glass appropriate to the reference. Crown mechanism was cleaned and reset. Case was gently cleaned without polishing, preserving the wear character the client valued. New gaskets throughout, pressure tested.

The Outcome

The watch was ready in three days. The client mentioned it looked exactly as it had when he first bought it — which, he noted, was the right answer. Not different. Just restored to itself.
